We have extensive experience successfully representing state and municipal governments in complex environmental tort litigation against some of the biggest corporations in the world. We go toe-to-toe with America’s largest corporate law firms every day. We are known for our skills in the courtroom, thorough preparation, and winning legal briefs; we have a reputation for honesty with judges that benefits our clients.

One of our most notable cases was for the State of New Hampshire against a dozen major oil companies that added the toxic chemical MTBE to their gasoline. Internal documents from the oil companies demonstrated they knew that MTBE would escape into the environment and contaminate groundwater. After nine years of hard-fought litigation, all the defendants except Exxon Mobil Corp. settled. After a three-month trial in 2013, a jury awarded the State one hundred percent of it damages against Exxon and the court entered judgment for $341 million. The New Hampshire Supreme Court affirmed the verdict in 2015 and we defeated Exxon’s petition seeking review by the U.S. Supreme Court. Read the full case here.
In addition to our environmental cases, we have represented large and small businesses, property owners, non-profit organizations and injured persons. We litigate in courts throughout the country. We work on contingency, hourly and mixed-fee arrangements and are open to creative billing arrangements that benefit the client and reward us for success. We welcome challenging, complex, and novel cases.
